Copy Markdown to Google Docs with formatting

Pasting raw Markdown into Google Docs usually preserves the asterisks and hash marks rather than the formatting they describe. The reliable path is to render the Markdown first, then copy the rendered result as rich text.

The quickest method

1. Open or paste the Markdown in MarkdownPaper.
2. Select the rendered passage you need.
3. Copy the selection from the readable page, not from edit mode.
4. Paste into Google Docs and review complex blocks.

Headings, emphasis, links, lists, blockquotes, and simple tables transfer best. Code blocks can keep useful structure, although the destination document may apply its own font and colors. Equations, diagrams, footnotes, and unusually wide tables should always be checked after pasting because Google Docs and the browser clipboard use different document models.

When PDF is safer

Use rich-text copy when the destination needs to remain editable. If exact layout matters more than further editing, save the Markdown as a PDF instead. PDF is also the safer choice for Mermaid diagrams and complex math because those elements have already been laid out before export.

MarkdownPaper does not connect to your Google account. Copying uses the normal system clipboard, and the final paste is handled by Google Docs in the browser.
