A Markdown reader, not another split pane

Most Markdown tools are built for writing: source on one side, a preview squeezed in beside it. MarkdownPaper is built for the moment after, when the document needs to be understood, reviewed or shared. See how it compares with the tools you may already use.

  • Reading: Lines stay near 74 characters in a serif made for long-form text.
  • Navigation: Headings become a contents index that remains in the margin.
  • Focus: The document gets the whole page and the controls fade while you read.
  • Privacy: Rendering stays in your browser and recent documents stay on this device. Read the privacy policy.

Open, read and export without uploading your document.

Questions

The details people usually want before opening a file, answered without making you hunt through documentation.

How do I view a .md file online without installing anything?

Choose a file on this page, drop one into the window, or paste Markdown. The document is rendered in your browser and is not uploaded.

Does it handle tables, footnotes, math, and diagrams?

Yes. It supports GitHub Flavored Markdown, tables, footnotes, task lists, syntax-highlighted code, KaTeX math, and Mermaid diagrams. The Markdown cheat sheet shows each one as source and result.

Can I edit with a live Markdown preview?

Yes. Press E to edit, then choose the split view to write with the source beside a live preview of the page. Reading stays the default.

Where are my documents stored?

The web app stores recent documents in IndexedDB in your browser. Your files stay on your device and survive a normal browser restart.

Can I save a PDF?

Yes. Use Print and choose “Save as PDF.” The print layout removes the app interface and applies document-friendly page margins.
